Revising My GAME Plan

So far i have learned that VoiceThreads will allow users to upload a large file. I ran a test the other day and was able to upload a large image without any problems. I still need to have a "dry-run" before I expect my students to use VoiceThreads effectively. I have received feedback from other teachers that they performed a "dry-run" with their students and the students loved it. This is something that I am considering, plus, this will give students an idea of what the software is and what it can do.

So far I have learned that having a network community to interact with helps a great deal. Any questions or concerns I may have, I have the ability to ask people online and receive a response quickly. Thank you to the inventor of computers and online networking! I feel my approaches I have taking to meet my game plan have worked. I do not believe that I would change anything that I have done. The NETS-T standards are something that I incorporate into my engineering curriculum daily.

  1. Hi Michael,

I am so glad that we have computers and network communities to assist us with our teaching. I don’t know what they did back in the day but we have a big advantage with the technology we have today. It is amazing how we can get answers from many different people all over the world, and how fast we can get it with the use of technology. It seem like you are on the right track with your GAME plan. Keep up the good work and good luck.

  2. Hi Michael. I think it is a great idea to have a trial run of the new technology first. It is always better to work out the "bugs" and be able to troubleshoot issues before the actual implementation. Do you have an idea in mind of what you are going to have your students do for the trial? Are you thinking of a mini lesson or just model the possibilities and then let them play around with the site? Once I gain approval and am ready to introduce blogging and VoiceThreads with my fourth graders, I plan to model and then assign a simple mini lesson so that students have the opportunity to play around with the new technology some but also be able to prove that they are confident and ready to use the technology for actual classwork. The mini lesson will only be graded based on participation. It will also let me see who needs additional instruction before we begin the class project. Best of luck to you! I am sure you will do great :)

  3. Roderick,

Computers definitely have made our lives easier. The technology has come so far that I cannot wait to see what the future holds for us and our children.

  4. Linda,

Initially I was planning on performing a dry-run with another teacher in a different school but after receiving feedback from fellow colleagues I think I will perform the dry-run with my class. I will incorporate VoiceThreads into one of my lesson and like you the students will get graded on participation. Thanks for the idea!

  5. Michael,
I really enjoyed your comment of thanking the inventors of computers and online networking. Although I initially had a little laugh over the comment, it is a very valid point. The fact, like you said, that you are able to go online and get almost instant feedback on a topic or have a question answered immediately is such a great luxury to have. It's amazing to think that just 20 years ago, these tools were beginning to be developed but were weak reflections of the tools that we have today. It is exciting to think about where technology will go in the next 10-20 years!
