Monitoring My GAME Plan Progress

So far things are looking good for my game plan. The only thing I need to do is brush-up on my VoiceThread skills. I feel for VoiceThreads to work for my engineering class I will need to complete a "dry run" with another teacher. I feel if we stay in contact on a daily basis for a couple weeks I will be able to work out all the kinks. My big concern will be if the VoiceThread site ever crashes and if so, how often.

I stay in contact with fellow engineering teachers and real-world engineers on a weekly, if not daily, basis. I have a hand-full of real-world engineers that are on a committee that I have. It is nice to know that students have a valid resource to rely on if questions should arise. I am a master teacher for the curriculum I teach which means I need to be up-to-date with curriculum revisions and new software being adding. During the summers I teach the engineering curriculum to entry level teachers. I teach at different universities which entails me to be a mentor throughout the year for the new teachers. This allows me to see what is working for these teachers and what I can learn from them.

  1. Michael,
How exactly would your students use the skill of creating Voice Threads? I understand you teach an engineering class, but what are some examples of topics that your students could create Voice Threads about? My students have created voice threads before, and they worked beautifully. We did not have any problems with the websites crashing.

That is great that your students would have daily access to experts in the engineering field. Wow, they are lucky! It sounds like that you are well on your way to completing your GAME plan.

  2. Amy,

My students are required to perform a virtual design project with other students outside of the school I teach in. In the past, students relied on Skype to do most of their communicating during class time. The issue with Skype is not all schools allow this to be downloaded. I would use VoiceThreads in place of Skype. I like how VoiceThreads allows you to post images while receive feedback in forms of print and voice.

I am glad to hear that it has never crashed on you. That Lessing’s a worry that I had.

  3. Michael,
Sounds like a good project. I have thought about using Skype with another teacher, but I had not thought that my school maybe would not let me download it. Thanks for mentioning this...now I'm going to ask my ITS tomorrow :)
